Its time we started looking at organic lawn care as a viable alternative to synthetics. I have been looking at many different aspects of turf management over the last few years, and the lawns that are treated organically (smartly) have endured much more of the stresses thrown at them when compared to their synthetically treated counterparts.

In fact, if you treat two lawns side by side, and one is treated with organic lawn treatments and the other with synthetic or traditionals, this is what you will find.

1) the organc lawn will respond slower

2) the synthetic lawn, on the flip side, will respond much more quickly

3) however, the organic lawn will hold it’s color longer when treatments are either missed or stopped altogether

4) the synthetic treatment lawn will not hold color under stress

5) the turf in the organic lawn will be healthier coming out of the next winter

6) the organic lawn will have a deeper color and need less water

so with all this in mind, we are encouraging all of you to go organic with your lawn care starting this season.

Taking good care of your lawn and garden starts with putting up a good fence. People and animals can do a lot of damage, especially if the garden has food. Children often do not mean any harm, but gardens can be a fun place to play. Fencing is usually a good deterrent to keep out the little two legged invaders. Animals like rabbits and deer can be a bit harder. Deer go over and rabbits go under. This is not usually a big deal if you just have grass in your yard, but other plants may be more delicate and/or the gardener does not want his or her crops stolen. Read more »

The energy sources used so far included non-renewable products such as petroleum and coal that take millions of years to form, but with the dangerous increase in the energy price, decreasing energy resources and the increase in the greenhouse gases leading to global warming and natural calamities the hope of having an alternative source of energy remains high. All over the world government systems are feeling the need to have a alternative source of energy for green living and maintaining eco-friendly environment.

Most traditional sources of energy are unsustainable thereby making greener sources of energy the hope for a better future and eco-friendly living. Many entrepreneurs and governments are trying to save the future of mother earth and its living beings by investing in alternative energy sources. It is the need of the hour to have an alternative source for a green living.

Some of the best alternative energy sources are discussed below emphasizing on their benefits in the long run

Solar Energy: This form of alternative energy source is produced deep inside the sun’s core due to a nuclear fusion reaction and travels to Earth in form of energy packets called photons. The simplest example is a calculator, as long as there is light the calculator works converting the light into energy. It is a non-polluting source of energy and is safe

Tidal Energy: This form of energy is produced by the regular rise and fall in the water level capable of producing hydroelectricity on a large scale through electric generators which are provided water through turbines. Energy produced is non-polluting and much economical than the conventional energy sources

Wind Energy: Wind energy is produced through wind farms installed in the farm areas and offshore locations where the flow of wind is good. Wind energy can be converted to do mechanical work like pumping water and grinding grain. This is the easiest available source of energy as the wind is in plenty and is free, clean and non-polluting

Biodegradable Energy: The energy obtained from methane gas, sewage or organic waste. This form of energy is derived from biogas plants setup in villages.

It is not a question in anyones mind that newspaper circulation is down and that newspaper marketing agency have their work cut out for them. Newspapers have the option to learn from their past success and convert that into higher revenue.

In the last 10 years newspapers have been slowly losing more and more customers to online news sources and advertisers shifting revenue. Newspapers enjoyed decades of high profit margins and were slow to adapt to the changing world around them. Now the time has come to change the way they do business before it is to late.

How can the newspapers stop the slow bleed and increase their revenue before it is to late? The number one way to increase revenue will be for newspaper advertising to diversify their revenue model immensely. Then the newspapers will have to expand their brand in a big way.

Newspaper sales were a direct result from newspaper marketing. Newspapers used their brand and recognition to sell subscriptions to more and more people. The product they commoditized was information. People could now know all of the things that transpired throughout the world.

Revenue was generated via newspaper circulation subscriptions and through placed ads within the content of the paper itself. With the advent of online marketing and advertising newspapers sale are in decline along with advertising revenue.

The plus side to all of this news is that newspapers have the ability to learn from their past success and make positive changes. The first change newspapers can do is encourage more and more people to use their websites for a source of local news and information.

The second thing newspapers should do is leverage their brand by co opting other successful models such as Craigslist and eBay. By offering a platform for people to exchange goods for little to nothing in limited quantities their website would see a drastic boost in traffic. As demand grows newspapers can charge additional fees for listing position, images, bold fonts, colors and the like.

Thirdly, newspapers handle most of their marketing internally. With the technology available newspapers could bring in advertising revenue by brokering advertising across all platforms of media. Newspaper could profit by offering advertising packages that cover print, billboard, radio and digital.

Newspapers have the ability to increase their revenue by changing their advertising and circulation model. The old ways of doing business for newspapers has passed and the future holds ample opportunity to rake in stray advertising dollars.

The ability to adjust business models is still within reach of newspapers. The changing model will reflect the need to branch out into more markets, across multiple platforms and expanding their brand online. The key will be to match their existing local brand to a brand that is recognized on the worldwide internet platform.

Having limited space does not mean that there can be no garden in the house. My niece will have just turned five by the time she gets in town for a visit. So far in life we are her very favorite place to visit. I think it is because we have a million kids and a crazy dog for her to play with, but selfishly of course I say it is because she loves us! I think it is also because we let her be crazy with us too! Last year when she came for a visit I introduced her to the art of powder sugaring your chocolate chip waffles! It was indeed truly priceless! Now, I make my waffles out of whole wheat of course, so that when we add all the sugary stuff to them we still can feel healthy about them! But, for her the best part is the powdered sugar! I first let her make her own waffle and then it happened! I let her put on her own powdered sugar with a powdered sugar shaker that I have (it works like sprinkles). A few sprinkles and she was hooked, line and sinker! She wanted to shake more and more on, and because I am the world’s best aunt, of course I let her. What cracked me up to pieces though is when she took the shaker from my hand and informed me “I’ll clean that for you” and before I knew it she licked all the sugar off the top of the lid, over and over until it was clean! And, again….because I am a good aunt, I let her!

When I leave my children at home alone with my husband I always have to prepare myself for the fact that when I return there may be some amount of chaos going on. Now, this chaos that I speak of is not necessarily a bad thing, but it is indeed chaos none the less. Some friends of ours called the other day and asked if we would like to take on their one hundred gallon fish tank. Well, seeing that we had to leave ours behind when we moved across the country, I said yes. So, the tank arrived and after much cleaning and a new set of fish, it was set up nicely in the corner of our living room. I had left to do some shopping and they had all decided to stay home and watch a movie. Sometime during their movie watching experience the light on the tank apparently had started to flicker. The men folk then decided that we needed a new light. After a trip to the store they decided to change out the light. This is the story I got when I came home and found water all over the carpet. The meat behind the story was that one of the boys held the new light while my husband and the others directed him on placement. The light then apparently “jumped” out of my son’s hand and into the water, while it was not only plugged in, but also while it was still in his hand! Of course he is being shocked while they all laugh. The light submerges itself into the tank and of course also shocks and kills half the fish. Needless to say, chaos at its best, and we still need a new light!

Once upon a moon some time ago I heard a saying that has stuck with me throught the years, “garbage in, garbage out”. The saying was told to me by a wise man who was sharing with me the importance of guarding one’s heart. He explained to me that the more trash I allowed to go through my heart, the more that would take root there. He advised that I choose with care the friends that I had, the music that I listened to, the TV that I chose to watch, and so on. As goofy as I thought he was at my young age, as time passed and I began to grow into a young adult, I realized that he spoke truth to my heart. The more that I chose to keep consistent garbage from entering my heart, the less of a direct impact it had on my life. I realized that negative friends sprouted growth to negativity in my own heart…that trashy music and TV brought forth garbage from own my lips and attitude. I realized that if I wanted positive growth in my life, from my heart, that I had to have “good in, so that good would come out”!

Christmas Firsts This Year

About

The Organic Gardens I love

This year for Christmas we experienced a “first”! Experiencing a “first” can only happen once, hence the name “first”, so needless to say, we were quite excited! As Christmas Eve drew near, chatter began about the possibility of snow for Christmas. Now, seeing as we live in Texas, the idea of snow at all is quite amusing! The idea of snow for Christmas is one that hasn’t been considered for some 25 years here according to area history. But, sure enough, this year north Texas experienced her first “White Christmas” this decade! The exciting news for our family is that we were blessed to experience our first “White Christmas” as well! A blizzard kicked into full gear on Christmas Eve, leaving behind an absolutely beautiful white landscape. Homes and streets alike were blanketed with the wonderful winter white. The kids were able to experience the feeling of fresh snow under their feet and the sweet sound of the snow crunch! Following our traditional gift time and family breakfast we were able to build our first real snowman! I guess then we were blessed to experience more than just one “first” this Christmas!
